Human tissues

As a strategic partner to the healthcare network, Héma-Québec currently supplies the majority of these products through its human tissue bank, with the remainder coming from international suppliers. As of December 2, 2024, under the new mandate granted to it by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, Héma-Québec will be responsible for the entire supply of human tissues to Québec hospitals.

Héma-Québec acts as a supplier of human tissues for transplantation and manages the Human Tissue Bank for Quebec. Héma-Québec is required to:

• Raise the awareness of the public and workers in hospital settings about the importance of identifying and referring people who could make a donation. When a potential donor is referred, Héma-Québec’s team handles the process of assessing and collecting the human tissues, including corneas.
