Héma-Québec is responsible for recruiting and qualifying donors, and for processing the milk, doing the associated testing, and distributing it to hospitals.

Héma-Québec has been running the only public mothers’ milk bank in Quebec since 2014. The purpose of the bank is to provide pasteurized human milk to premature infants up to 32 weeks of age who require medical care and are treated in the following hospitals: Hôpital de Fleurimont (CHUS), Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont McGill, University Health Centre (Glen site), Centre mère-enfant at the CHUL,CHU mère-enfant Sainte-Justine and the Jewish General Hospital
