Current accreditations
The Reference and Stem Cell Laboratory (RSCL) is accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) for its HLA typing activities.
Héma-Québec’s Public Cord Blood Bank is the first Canadian bank to be NetCord-FACT accredited. In cell therapy, this accreditation is an essential qualification.
The standards in this international standard are established by recognized experts, based on the most recent knowledge involving cord blood banks, which puts Héma-Québec among the leaders in the field.
The Reference and Stem Cell Laboratory (RSCL) is ISO 15189 certified for its medical analysis (erythrocytic immunology, platelet immunology, and HLA typing).

Héma-Québec was one of the first organizations in North America to implement the international ISBT 128 labelling standard for stem cells. Implementing this standard ensures increased safety and greater efficiency in the traceability of analyses.
Héma-Québec complies with Health Canada's Safety of human cells, tissues and organs for transplantation regulations and the following Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards:
- CAN/CSA-Z900.1-22 - Cells, tissues, and organs for transplantation: General requirements;
- CAN/CSA-Z900.2.5-22 - Lymphohematopoietic cells for transplantation.
The World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) is an international community that establishes standards and regulations for stem cell donor registries in order to:
- foster the best transplant outcome for recipients;
- ensure the best practices pertaining to donors.
Although the certificate's expiry date is February 25, 2024, the WMDA has granted a one-year extension to all accredited registries due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Héma-Québec's certificate expires on February 25, 2025.
