Plasmavie of Trois-Rivières celebrates its tenth anniversary
Montréal – Yesterday, the Plasmavie of Trois-Rivières celebrated its tenth anniversary. The event brought together in a festive atmosphere Dany Carpentier, the municipal councillor from the La-Vérendrye district of Trois-Rivières, members of the executive committee, the board of directors, and several branches of Héma-Québec, staff and volunteers of the Centre, as well as donors, recipients and partners.
The guests heard the testimonial of Paul Langevin, regional president of the Mauricie-Centre du Québec chapter of the Association of Blood Donation Volunteers, who spoke about his special ties with the Plasmavie of his region. In addition to his involvement as a volunteer, Mr. Langevin is also a major donor of blood products. During his testimonial, he was accompanied by his 7-year-old granddaughter Nelly, who came into the world prematurely at 25 weeks and needed a number of biological products.
The very first centre of its kind to open its doors, the Plasmavie of Trois-Rivières has been dedicated to plasma donating since it opened in 2013. It is also one of the drop-off points for donors who contribute to Héma-Québec’s Public Mothers’ Milk Bank, created in 2014.
“The creation of the Plasmavie donor lounges was an important step in Héma-Québec’s evolution. Over the years, not only have we opened centres in a number of regions in order to get closer to donors, but we also wanted to take concrete action to achieve plasma self-sufficiency, one of our major challenges. The demand for plasma-based medications is constantly increasing, and we have to redouble our efforts to meet the needs of the population,” said Nathalie Fagnan, President and CEO of Héma-Québec, in her speech.
