Age, weight and plasma donation
The following criteria must be met by plasma donors:
Age
You must be 18 years of age or older to give plasma.
Weight
You cannot donate plasma if you weigh less than 50 kg (110 lb), regardless of your height. See the minimum weight chart to find out whether you can give plasma.
Frequently asked question
The goal of the height and weight criterion is to ensure that no more than 18% of a donor’s estimated blood volume is collected.
Adverse effects are more likely to occur in donors with a lower blood volume.
For this reason, weight and height are factored in to determine whether you are eligible to donate.
